…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Join us for the annual Deloitte Regatta on [days above]. Whatever your level of sailing experience, you will get the chance for a great weekend of sailing with friends and colleagues on the Solent.

The Regatta includes:

  • A full weekend of sailing
  • Friday night in Port Solent + dinner
  • Saturday night dinner in location (Lymington, Cowes or Yarmouth)

Friday night begins around 1930 at Port Solent where we will allocate you to a boat and allow you time to meet your fellow crew-mates and skipper over dinner and a quiz.

On Saturday morning you will learn how to work as a crew to make the boat sail and will have the opportunity to take the helm, hoist the sails and variously crew the boat. In the afternoon there will be an optional competitive activity with the other Deloitte boats in the Regatta. Saturday night dinner is in Lymington, Cowes or Yarmouth. After dinner crews are free to explore the town.

The event is open to everyone in Deloitte and Deloitte Alumni, depending on availability. If you would like to come as a project team or group of friends, please indicate this on the sign-up form. There are 9 people on each boat including the skipper and 2 experienced crew. If you are putting a team together you may include these, otherwise you have 6 places per team.

Everything you need to sail is included in the price of approx. £300 per person for the weekend, those that are signed up as a Skipper or 2IC may qualify for a discount. The price includes waterproofs, food afloat and dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Sleeping in shared accommodation on board the boats. You can stay in hotels if you prefer, however this will be at your own expense.

What time should I arrive?

It would be ideal if you can make it down on Friday evening. We will be at a Restaurant in Port Solent from around 1930/2000 on Friday. There will be people in the restaurant when you arrive, otherwise they will be on the yachts nearby. The staff will be able to direct you as necessary.

Dinner will be available at approximately 2000.

What is the latest I can arrive?

If you are unable to join us on Friday night, we are expecting you by 0830 on Saturday morning at the latest. We aim to leave the marina at 0900.

Where should I meet you?

Friday – until 2000 go to the Port Solent Lock House to find out which boat you are on and to drop your bags. After this go to Port Solent Yacht Club Restaurant and look for the Deloitte team

Saturday morning – go to the Port Solent Lock House and look for the Deloitte boats. The yachts are usually moored up just outside the marina on a pontoon and there may be Deloitte flags flying on some of the yachts.

What should I bring?

Assume that it will be cold and that you will get wet!! Do not be fooled by any warmer weather between now and the regatta – make sure you bring plenty of warm gear (and probably a spare set).  Gloves are quite useful. It could be hot and/or sunny on the other hand in which case you’ll need shades, hat and plenty of sunblock.

Deck shoes, white-soled trainers or sailing boots will be required.

For sleeping on the boat please bring a sleeping bag, pillow etc.

Remember, we will be sailing to Isle of Wight (IOW) on Saturday and staying there overnight – so don’t leave anything in your car that you might want!

What time will we be finished?

We should be finished around 1700 on Sunday.

Do I need to book the evening meal for Friday?

The cost of dinner on Friday is included in the price you have agreed to pay and you do not need to book in advance.

What is happening on Saturday evening?

We will be mooring up on the IOW on Saturday evening, where dinner is ashore. After dinner crews are free to explore the town.

I have specific dietary requirements – can you cater for me?

We have made an allowance for the breakfast, lunch and dinners if you have already let us know i.e. there will be some vegetarian options available.
If you want/need anything different or have other special dietary needs you will need to cater for yourself.

Where will I sleep?

There will be room on the boats to sleep – just bring a sleeping bag, pillow etc. There are shower facilities at Port Solent and in IOW. If you choose to sleep elsewhere, this will be at your own expense and we cannot provide any advice on suitable hotels or B&Bs.

Are there any hotels nearby that we can stay at?

There are hotels nearby, but we are not able to provide any advice on which hotels to stay at. If you choose to stay at a hotel it will be at your own expense and must be organised by you.

How do I get there by train – which station and what about taxis?

There are two main train options, Havant with more regular trains service and a taxi rank outside but the journey is a bit longer than from Cosham which is about 10 mins away by taxi, although taxis are not always easy to find. There is a taxi company on the other side of the road to the station so ask there if there are none waiting. Most people choose Havant as it is more reliable for taxis (there is a rank outside) though the taxi journey is a bit longer (and more expensive).

If you are happy to walk for 20 mins then go to Portchester. If you would prefer taking a taxi Uber is recommended

If you are coming by taxi please ask to be dropped at The Lock House.

How do I get there by car?

The postcode for sat nav systems is PO6 4TH.

On arrival at Port Solent Marina, follow the main road going straight across the first roundabout. At the next roundabout, bear right (the only way). At the third roundabout, take the second exit. Then drive over two ‘sleeping policemen’ and take the next right. The Port House building is directly ahead of you.

Where should I park?

Please park in the visitors’ car park by The Port House.

Is there a charge code for my expenses?

No – all travel costs will be at your own expense.

Do you know if there is anyone travelling from London whom I can share a lift with?

We are unable to coordinate car sharing centrally, however please feel free to use the Logistics channel on the Teams group for the Regatta in order to find other people to travel with.

What about wet weather gear?

A full set of sailing waterproofs will be provided free of charge to everyone who requires them. You do not need to reserve these – they will be provided with the yachts.

Do you know if wetsuit shoes/boots are ok for sailing in?

Deck shoes, trainers or sailing boots will be required – wetsuit shoes/boots should be OK.

I can no longer make it – can I get a refund?

We understand that circumstances change and that sometimes it is not possible to be in two places at once. We also know how much voluntary time and effort goes into making the events happen and how much reorganising is required as numbers change.

We try to offer unwanted places to people on a waiting list and where we can do this we will offer a full refund. However, if the request is within 5 days of the start of the event and we cannot find a replacement we will not be able to offer a refund.

Please note that whilst this is a fun event, by its very nature sailing is a physical outdoor activity, which sometimes means getting wet (in the rain) and possibly a little cold. You will be expected to pull ropes, winch and generally help with the sailing of the boat.
